Sehr geehrte Frau Bundeskanzlerin Merkel, wir sind eine Gruppe von “Sri Lanka Freunden”, die zum Teil schon seit vielen Jahren diese wunderschöne Insel bereist, dadurch Land und Leute kennen und lieben gelernt hat und zum Teil dort auch Familienbande geknüpft hat. Durch die etwas “engere Verbundenheit” mit Sri Lanka haben wir natürlich auch die politischen Ereignisse und ganz besonders den Verlauf des über zweieinhalb Dekaden andauernden Bürgerkriegs mit allergrößter Sorge verfolgt. |

The Kalpitiya area will be developed as a tourist destination. Ministry of Tourism says the development plan in this connection has already been formulated. Surveying of 5,000 acres of land is now in progress to be used to set up tourist resorts. Tenders have been called from interested parties to start the venture as a joint project of the both public and private sectors. According to the development plan, tourist resorts will be set up at islets in Kalpitiya. Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism George Michael says the venture will generate 15 thousand direct jobs. Several star class hotels are to be set up at these tourist resorts.
